InSites Consulting Health Smartees April 2012: Patient empowerment and Social engagement rules

Last Wednesday morning at 9AM during typical stormy weather, 60 people gathered in the Penthouse at InSites’ Consulting HQ in Ghent Belgium, impatiently waiting for Thibaud to kick off the 4th Health Smartees. Then, managing partner Magali Geens framed the mornings agenda in her usual high spirited and dynamic style. On the agenda were presentations on patient empowerment from Carl Vandeloo and myself, social media from Saartje en Health Apps from Sofie. The essence of ethnography

The first presentation told a mixed audience of marketers and researchers that a fusion of two types of observational methods is ideal to LISTEN to patients. In particular Carl captured the essence of the Ethnography method, a case study with Janssen Pharma, in a very engaging story where he placed himself in the ‘shoes of the Diabetes patient’. This session closed with a ‘last man standing’ quiz, which tested the Diabetes knowledge of the audience. In the end, not one but 4 were left standing, so additional champagne was needed to be collected to forfill InSites’ promise.


Social rules of engagement

After the break, Saartje engaged the gathered pharma-, insurance-, patient organization and many other InSites’ relations with new facts and insights on how to use YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. The many examples, video’s and at the end questions – showed this was a topic of high interest. And as the ‘grand finale’, Sofie’s presentation about health Apps for patients and the physicians was the icing on the cake of an inspiring morning! The fact that many Belgium but also Dutch clients stayed for the lunch and Champaign till the early hours of the afternoon was another indication that this 4th Health Smartee has earned it place in the busy diaries of all of us.
