Clash of the Titans – Online vs In-Person Qualitative Research
The next generation of online qualitative research has emerged. The majority of people in the developed world are now using the Internet to communicate and interact with each other more than ever before. In parallel to the growth of the Internet and Social Web, the use of online qualitative methods such as online focus groups, bulletin boards, buzz monitoring and web ethnography continues to gain momentum.
But to what extent do online methodologies contribute to the quality (robustness, fitness for purpose) and value (VFM, insight, usefulness) of the qualitative offering? How does online qualitative research compare with its ‘in-person’ counterpart?
On December 7, BAQMaR organizes an online debate covering the following three topics:
- Do online qualitative interviewing methods better meet client needs including value for money?
- Does online offer a way to improve the depth of engagement with respondents, or will face-to-face interviewing always be a better way?
- Why is there a resistance from many research consultants to taking projects online?
The debate is set-up as a fringe event of The Festival of NewMR. Two teams of ‘Titans’ will come together for this interactive debate.
The ‘Onliners’ and the ‘In-Personers’ will present and give their arguments and views on these topics. You, the public are invited to observe and vote in this live debate, on the strongest argument for each topic. Tom De Ruyck, Senior Manager ForwaR&D Lab is one of the “Onliners”.
