Vlerick’s graduation ceremony 2011

Vlerick’s graduation ceremony was organized last friday at the Capitool in the center of Ghent. All 335 (!) students – gathering the different Vlerick campuses – wore a full black academic dress perked up with a Vlerick green shawl. One by one, the students groups were proclaimed by Dirk Buyens, the School’s Academic Dean. A memorable moment was the proclamation of the Beijing campus MBA students. Try to proclaim 30 Asian names without a hitch! Compliments to Dirk.

The room had a blast when again another 5 students with the same name followed one another. Speaking about cultural differences : when the Beijing class stepped forward, the first white sneakers were spotted on stage. And after many formal handshakes, Dean Buyens was treated on big hugs by the seemingly emotional Asian visitors.
The graduation ceremony started at 4PM and finished at 6.30PM. Around 6PM, the best projects and best students got their laurels. Following a good tradition, InSites Consulting (represented by Magali Geens, Managing Partner and former Vlerick master graduate), awarded the price for the best Master in Marketing Management (aka M3) project. After the abundant ‘closing’ speeches, the graduates and their guests walked to the Ghent Campus for a very nice summer reception (causing an instant traffic infarct at the “Zuid” when crossing the streets). The cooks could not follow providing filling for the hungry stomachs, but the abundant drinks and great atmosphere ensured a memorable eve for the new Vlerick Alumni and their entourage.
